What is InterLibrary Loan?
Instead of trying to obtain everything, libraries share resources with each other. This resource sharing service is called Interlibrary Loan (ILL).
What can you borrow from other libraries?
Currently, the Matthew Jacoby Library supports article and book borrowing.
How long does it take?
- E-resource and article/book copy requests can be delivered within 24 hours, but may take up to 4 days.
- Item loan requests typically take 1-2 weeks to be delivered.
Is there anything that I can’t get through ILL?
Some items may be difficult or impossible to obtain through ILL. Items that do not circulate (leave the library) such as reference books, special collections, rare or fragile books, and archival or genealogical materials may not be available through ILL. A librarian may be able to scan a chapter/section or a limited # of pages if the item is not too fragile. If ILL is not possible due to an item’s condition or availability, WorldCat is a great resource to find items that may be accessible on-site in a nearby library. Likewise, ArchiveGrid is a fantastic resource to find archival materials that may be in an institution near you.
